The same applies for text messages and data; you can see how many texts you've sent versus the number you've received, and how close that puts you to your cap. Data is broken into 2G/3G and Wi-Fi: the utility displays how much data you've sent over your cellular network versus Wi-Fi networks, and you can set your bandwidth caps there as well. You can even tell the app when your billing cycle is up, and it'll refresh all of your minutes, SMS messages, and data on that date.
The only downside to Stats is that you can't program it for periods where you have unlimited calling, for example if you're on a plan where nights after 9pm and weekends allow you to call any number for free, Stats won't notice that and counts the minutes used on calls during that time anyway. Additionally, some reviewers in the Android App Market have grumbled that it doesn't always work on their device.
Still, Stats is free, and worth a download, especially if you're looking for a light utility to help you keep track of how much you're using your Android mobile device. Best of all, it supports every version of Android, so you don't have to worry whether or not your phone can run the app.
