Apple’s feature-heavy iOS 6 will be available as a free download Sept. 19. The new mobile operating system brings more than 200 new improvements to Apple’s ecosystem, including a redesigned Maps app and Facebook integration.
iPhone 3GS, 4, 4S iPad 2,the new iPad and iPodtouch owners qualify for the free upgrade.

iOS 6 features will include:
Maps: The new system features vector-based maps, satellite imagery, free turn-by-turn directions, points of interest displayed inline on the map, and new 3D Flyover locations.

Notification Center: The new software will allow users to send a tweet or Facebook update directly from Notification Center. Facebook has also been built into iOS system-wide. This will enable users to access Siri to send a status update and share images and websites through Facebook.

Safari: Safari boasts a fullscreen landscape mode in iOS 6 as well as iCloud Tabs, which allows the user to sync open webpages across any other iOS devices (running iOS 6) and Macs (running OS X Mountain Lion) connected to his or her iCloud account.

Mail: Users can assign VIPs both within Mail on iOS 6 and on a Mac running Mountain Lion. Messages from VIPs go to a special folder in Mail on iOS 6. Special notifications for those VIPs can be created in Notification Center. Flagged messages turn up in a new flagged mailbox.

Passbook: The only new app in iOS 6, Passbook allows users to amass tickets, passes, coupons, and store cards digitally. You can shred tickets when you’re done with them. Some store cards and passes will automatically appear on your lock screen if you’re nearby the location indicated on the pass.

Shared Photo Streams: This new addition to the Photos app, Shared Photo Streams allows users to collect images to share with family and friends via iCloud or the Internet.

Siri:  Apple’s virtual voice-driven assistant can open apps, make reservations for dinner, and post to your social networks.
