Smartphones are extensions of ourselves — we use them for organizing,
planning and shopping, so why not driving? Dash, a low-energy Bluetooth
device, works with your smartphone and car to analyze your trips using
the engine computer.
Plug Dash into your car and sync it with any iOS
device to monitor your driving. The free app creates a new profile for
every car you plug the device into, and automatically sends data to the
company's website so you can track trends and costs. Check out the
video, above, for more.
While there are other devices that operate as driving assistants,
Dash improves your driving during your trip as opposed to after. The
aim is to make the app a seamless part of your dashboard by creating
customizable displays such as fuel usage and mileage.
Gauges and charts update in real-time, and users can receive alerts
when the car isn't operating as smoothly as it should. The online
database lets you compare your information with others for money-saving
tips and driving advice. Using DashCam, you can also record a video of
your trip with overlaid engine details by mounting your smartphone onto the dashboard or windshield.
The device is available for preorder on Kickstarter, starting at $69.
