Both games will be free the first day they go on sale, after which they'll be priced at $2.99 each, PopCap said. Chuzzle will be available through the Appstore for a two week period that starts Tuesday and ends May 30. Plants vs. Zombies will be offered later in the month.
"Our relationship with Amazon is pivotal to PopCap's overall strategy in bringing a growing roster of mobile title to the ever-widening base of smartphone users," PopCap's senior director of global product and business strategy for mobile Giordano Bruno Contestabile said. "By making these titles available on the Android platform, we'll significantly extend the reach of our top franchises to legions of new mobile customers and gaming fans alike."
It's the second time games have been sold exclusively through the Amazon Android Appstore, which offered Angry Birds Rio exclusively and for free when it launched in March.
It also could be another hint at the emphasis Amazon has been placing on Android recently. The Amazon Appstore has about 30 different categories of apps that users can test out on their PC. Other features of the store include one-click purchasing, targeted recommendations, a deals page with discounted apps, and one free paid app each day.
Amazon has offered several Android-related promotions recently. Last month, it awarded a$25 Appstore credit to those who purchased a new mobile device on Verizon through Amazon. It also slashed the price of the HTC Thunderbolt on Verizon to $129.99 from the usual price of $249.99.
The recent Android push could be evidence that Amazon could be readying an Android tablet. Amazon hasn't confirmed that such a device is coming, but when asked about it last week, CEO Jeff Bezos said "stay tuned."
