IPad; Do we still need to hae it?

Originally, I do not too much attention to the hustle and bustle of the emergence of iPad, aah most like other touch-screen netbook (which in the exhibitions did not look the excess than usual). But really it seems that opinion needs to be corrected.

I had seen several brands and types of touch-screen netbook in a variety of computer exhibition, generally they only show Windows screens with multiple icons. We're allowed to click here, push there, but until recently could not find what is its main advantage compared to the usual. Which can only keep the stand also explained that the screen can be touched! After reading some related articles iPad, waah seems to be a new breakthrough - not just a netbook or laptop is too small, nor is it just too big PDA!

NewsHour App for iPhone and iPad (PBS)

NewsHour has been running on PBS since 1975, and it's always been a mainstay for in-depth investigative reporting and news. Now, if you have an iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad, you can watch the show anytime with the PBS NewsHour App for iOS. The app is completely free, available now in the iTunes App Store, and lets you read the news of the day, browse for news and stories by category, and even watch video from the most recent episode of NewsHour, previous episodes, or featured stories that you may have missed.

The PBS NewsHour app supports any iOS device running 3.0 or later, but it's also compatible with iOS 4's multitasking features, so you can listen to stories playing in the background or run apps in the background while you're watching a video.

At the bottom of the app screen you can select whether you want to read the day's news headlines, watch video, browse political news, or see what's going on with your local PBS affiliate. You can also touch to browse news stories and video based on categories like the economy, science and technology, art beat, world news, and more.

If you tap to see video, you can stream clips of recent and featured NewsHour stories, and editorial reports from columnists like Mark Shields and David Brooks right on your mobile device. The videos play in the iPhone's default media player, so you can control playback, fast-forward, or change the volume easily. If you tap the news icon, you'll be able to read some of the in-depth stories from the PBS NewsHour site.

The PBS NewsHour app supports 3G and Wi-Fi, so you don't have to be near an access point to watch video. There's no Android version of the app yet, but a post at the NewsHour blog indicated that more platforms are on the way soon.

Apple Remote App Updates with New iPad UI and Multi-Library Support

The Remote App for iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad got a much needed update this week, including a completely new interface for iPad users, support for the Apple Retina Displays on the iPhone 4 and newest iPod Touch, and the ability to connect to multiple iTunes libraries at once and control playback on multiple devices.

The updated app gives the iOS device control over iTunes libraries and allows you to send music to AirPlay supported speakers and audio devices around your home as long as they're on the same Wi-Fi network as your iPad, iPhone, or iPod Touch. Additionally, the new version allows you to control the new Apple TV and even enter text with the on-screen keyboard so you don't have to scroll through playlists to find what you want to play.

The Remote app looked all but abandoned, but with the amount of movement and change in Apple's iOS devices and the release of the new Apple TV, it makes sense now would be the time to update it with new features. The new Remote app includes support for AirPlay, so your other Macs and AirPlay-supported devices (if you have any) can be managed directly from your iOS device.

You can also pair the app with multiple iTunes libraries using Home Sharing, so you can control the Mac Mini connected to your television as well as the Macbook Pro on your desk without having to remove one library first. If you have AirPlay speakers or an AirPlay device in your bedroom, you can push music from that Macbook Pro to the speakers in your bedroom right from your mobile device.

Perhaps one of the biggest changes in the new Remote app is the updated iPad interface. The iPad version of the app includes a wide-screen iTunes-like display that allows you to scroll through your songs by cover art and search your music library by keyword instead of scrolling through all of your music to locate a specific song you want to play.

Additionally, the iPad version of the app blows up the album art of the currently-playing song and puts playback and volume controls around it, making it look and feel a lot more like the iPod and iPhone version of the app.

Both new versions give you gesture control over the new Apple TV, and allows you to ditch the included remote and use your fingers instead. You can play, pause, drag and drop, and move on-screen selections right on your iOS device. The app is completely free, requires your device have iOS 3.1.2 or later, and is available now in the iTunes App Store.

HBO Teases Streaming App for iPad, Smartphones

HBO has posted a new YouTube video that teases an upgrade to its HBO Go service, which will allow subscribers to stream HBO shows and movies to their iPad, laptops, and smartphones.
The service will provide "instant and unlimited access to the best that HBO has to offer. Get every episode of every season of your favorite HBO shows, plus hit movies and much more," according to the video (below).

The video says the service will be free to all subscribers and provide streaming to the iPad, as well as laptops and smartphones. An HBO spokeswoman said the app will support iOS and most devices running Android 2.1 and higher. BlackBerry and Windows Phone 7 will not be supported at this time, but "we are actively looking at all platforms," the spokeswoman said.

The clip also says access will be available "wherever you are," and HBO confirmed that subscribers can access content over 3G and Wi-Fi, so viewing is not restricted to the home. The end of the video also flashes 5.02.11, so keep an eye on the Apple App Store and Android app stores come May 2.
HBO has an iOS app, though it currently only provides access to clips, more information about the channel's shows and scheduling, as well as the ability to purchase HBO shows via iTunes.

HBO Go, meanwhile, first launched in February 2010 with Verizon FiOS. It allowed subscribers to watch HBO content via the Internet, and has since expanded to AT; T U-Verse and DirecTV, as well as beta versions for Cox Communications and Suddenlink.

HBO first announced plans to stream its content to portable devices in August, and said it would have it available within six months.

HBO has thus far refused to allow its content on Netflix's streaming service, which offers access to its Watch Instantly library on iOS devices. Netflix has expanded its streaming library of late, and in March, it announced plans for its own original series, which will start airing in 2012. In announcing the series, Netflix took a dig at HBO, noting that "gripping, serialized one-hour drama, such as 'Heroes,' 'Lost,' 'Dexter,' and 'Weeds,' has become a very important part of the Netflix experience and over the years, we've been able to add these shows from many different channels, with the notable exception of HBO."

In the wake of that announcement, Showtime said it would no longer provide some of its original programming to Netflix. Starz also delayed the Netflix debut of "Camelot" for 90 days.

iPad 2, Xoom or PlayBook: Which one is the Hottest in Tablets Rate

It seems like an eternity that we talked about the Motorola Xoom and the RIM BlackBerry playbook. In fact, we did. For months, long enough for the iPad 2 made its debut, the press and analysts ask: What tablet would rule the performance and speed? What would be the best apps? How about the best user experience?

Until recently, all we had was hardware specs to compare the contenders, and we could only guess how well they can perform.But now that the two most popular non-Apple tablet market hit, we can answer these questions. This excellent Mac program translates extremely well to the iPad and is true testament to how much iOS has matured—it's a desktop-class app running on a mobile device. It also showcases the new tablet's processing power.

6. iMovie

Apple's own desktop video-editing app, iMovie, goes mobile with a new iPad version. The easy-to-use app makes good use of the tablet's touch-screen interface, and lets you clip, add photos, music, themes, and more to the video you capture right on the iPad 2.

7. WebEx

If you need to work, but don't want to be tethered to your desk, this virtual meeting app offers two-way video conferencing that uses the iPad's front-facing camera, but just like with FaceTime, you need to be on a Wi-Fi network to use it.







8. Twittelator

Currently, Twittelator is the only Twitter client that lets you record audio and video, and take photos with the iPad 2's cameras, and use them to help illustrate your tweets.
